About the Punahou Surgical Society
We're a newly certified full status club in Punahou School's Academy (9-12) campus!
Our mission
Led by a team of visionaries, this newly-founded organization seeks to inspire passion in medicine and healthcare, while inspiring individuals to make a difference in our society. However, events and activities are not restricted only to the surgical aspect of the vast medical field. This club organizes engaging activities throughout the year to instill a sense of inquisitiveness and ambition in its members.
The society hopes to immerse its members in the limitlessly exciting health care field with carefully and thoughtfully designed activities. Despite being a relatively new club, our strong and expansive network has allowed us to forge invaluable connections with leading medical professionals in our community. Through guest speaker appearances, activities, and workshops we hope all students will gain insight into something they may consider to be a possible profession, with the ultimate goal of ameliorating the growing shortage of healthcare providers in our local communities.
Our club also presents Punahou with the opportunity to continue broadening its connections with professionals in the medical field, which will only help to perpetuate the school's outstanding reputation.
We gladly welcome any suggestions from our valued members, as they are critical in the continued development and improvement of our society.
Our logo
Punahou Surgical Society's emblem consists of the Rod of Ascleplus, a serpent-entwined staff belonging to the Greek god of healing and medicine. Many organizations, including the U.S. Army, erroneously employ the usage of Hermes' Caduceus (the better-known, winged staff with double entertwined serpants) as their symbol. However, it is Asclepius' staff that is historically accurate, as it was associated with the medicinal arts in Greek mythology. A period of an electrocardiogram reading represents human life, indistinctly enscripted by a tilted scalpel, reflecting the cruciality of healthcare professionals in society.
The two typfaces used are: Lexicon No. 1 (from one of the most expensive font families in the world), as well as Scalpel, a name fitting for its place in our logo. Our adage is set in Marck Script.
